How to Use the Kava Blend Calculator

This calculator helps you blend different types of kava by calculating the weighted average of the kavalactone percentages in your blend. It also provides an "Expected Chemotype" based on the blended kavalactone percentages and evaluates whether the blend is likely noble or non-noble. Follow the steps below to use the calculator:

  1. Start by entering the name of the kava in the "Kava Name" field.
  2. Fill in the percentages for each kavalactone: DMY, DHK, Y, K, DHM, M, and Flavokavain B (FKB). The percentages should reflect the kavalactone composition of the specific kava you are using.
  3. Enter the amount of that kava in grams in the "Amount (grams)" field.
  4. If you want to blend multiple kavas, click on the "+ Add Kava" button to add a new kava entry row. Repeat steps 1-3 for each new kava.
  5. If you need to remove a kava entry, click the "Remove" button in the top right corner of that kava entry.
  6. If you need to duplicate a kava entry, click the "Duplicate" button in the top right corner of that kava entry.
  7. Once you have added all the kavas you want to blend, click the "Calculate Blend" button.
  8. The calculator will display the expected kavalactone percentages for the blend, the "Expected Chemotype," and whether the blend is likely noble or non-noble, along with an explanation.

Note: The Expected Chemotype is represented as a sequence of numbers where each kavalactone is assigned a number: DMY = 1, DHK = 2, Y = 3, K = 4, DHM = 5, M = 6. The chemotype is determined by sorting the kavalactone percentages from highest to lowest and representing them by their respective numbers.
