Kava Colada Kava Cocktail Recipe

Kava Colada Recipe

This alcohol-free twist on a piña colada is a playful, tasty way to mask kava’s earthiness. Makes 2 to 3 servings.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice (enough to make 6 pineapple ice cubes)
  • 4 Tbsp. Medium grind kava kava powder
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1oz coconut cream
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 6 ice cubes (made from water)
  • 1/2 tsp. Single Origin Roasted Cacao Powder
  • 2-3 organic orange wedges

Directions

  1. Freeze pineapple juice in an ice cube tray. A 3/4 cup of juice should make 6 ice cubes, enough for this recipe. Or fill an ice cube tray with 2 cups juice to have leftover pineapple ice cubes for another time.
  2. Combine kava kava powder, coconut milk, coconut cream and orange juice in a blender.
  3. Blend for 4 minutes and strain out kava pulp with a nut bag
  4. Add 6 pineapple ice cubes to the blender and 6 ice cubes made from water. Pulse blend to crush the ice. Do not fully blend to avoid melting the ice.
  5. Pour in a festive glass. Sprinkle with cacao powder and garnish with an orange wedge.

Note: You can make a non-caffeinated chai tea and freeze those into cubes in place of the water ice cubes for a bit more spice and flavor.

Damu Fiji Kava

One of the most medicinal kavas I’ve ever come across. This kava leans heavy and kicks in slowly but the effects linger for a few hours where many kavas effects burn out quicker. The grind on this kava is fine and it has a nice fresh smell upon opening the bag. This kava truly feels like your sitting next to a warm campfire. Its gentle yet powerful… it’s the perfect night time kava.

Dokobana waka

Starting to realize I much prefer the cultivars that keep their basal and lateral roots at the natural levels (I guess that's 75/25 on average). Nevertheless this is a very high quality kava and the only reason I don't give it a 5 star is for the reason that it is only Waka. I also prefer Vanuatu kava to that of Fijian. Bula!

Perfect anytime

I took the kelai to an event where most had alcohol, and it was perfect for socializing. Also tried at home and it was equally suited for chill mode at home without couch lock.
